Tri-Anglia Club Aquathlon

On Wednesday evening I took part in the last of this year’s Tri-Anglia midweek aquathlons, my second in a fortnight. For anyone who isn’t sure what this event is it’s a swim followed by a run and these have been my first attempt at this slightly unusual event!

I managed to find a last minute volunteer from the club who was willing to swim with me using the tether rope as my intended victim, I mean swim buddy Simon somehow managed to break his wetsuit zip just before the start meaning no swim for him. I am lucky that someone will nearly always swim with me!

My new swimming partner and I set off for a steady mile lap in Whittlingham lake, which is just on the edge of Norwich and home to most of my open water training. Once out of the water and running I was like a man possessed. I had a great run and suprised myself with my quickest ever lap around the ourside of the lake.

Having had a foot injury which has kept me out of action for a large part of this season it was great to get my running shoes on again and really push it. Hopefully last nights run is a good sign for Beijing’s World Championships next week!!

I’m so sorry that I never got to say goodbye to you. I popped into reception to put something in my bag and they ambushed me by telling me that my taxi was there ready and waiting to take me to the airport. I only had time for a few quick photos including one with the very excited taxi driver!!! (oh to be famous). The taxi took me all the way to the airport which was over an hour and it was all free! Sorry I never got round to whishing you the best on the rest of your journey but I hope you got home safely. I hope your injuries have healed now internally as well as externally and whish you the best of luck for your final major event of the year over in Gijon. You’ve had a rough year but I’m sure you have learnt a lot to push you forward for future years of competing after all it’s only 2011…who will remember 2011…now 2016 is a lot more important and we have five years before then. Finish the year on a high and I’ll see you at the BTF awards. Steve
