After the Spring edition of this supersprint race (where I finished joint 7th) I was looking forward to Autumn’s re-run on 6th September. Focusing more on some upcoming bike races, this would be my last triathlon of 2015 and I was hoping to finish even higher in the rankings this time out.
Due to issue with the pool we unfortunately ended up with a duathlon race rather than a swim-bike-run event…not really playing to my strengths, but these things happen.
The first run went quite well and I was feeling strong, although still lost about 1 minute to the fast guys over the 1,800m lumpy route. I was my usual Mr Consistent on the bike, carefully covering the 20k in the 33 minute bracket for the umpteenth time on this route. The second run was slower than hoped for due to some bad cramp, but I was pleased to finish strongly and take 15th over-all.
Not quite what I was hoping for but also not too bad considering I might well have gained from having a swim compared to a losing ground with extra running to do. Regardless, there were some top performances on the day and it was a great workout for me!
Congratulations to Organiser Mark Philo and his team of cheery volunteers from Tri-Anglia (Including The Boss, Jill who was at the finish line) – The club always put on a great event whatever the circumstances.
