2016 is shaping up to be an interesting year for Tri Team Dawson. OK so there’s no Paralympics to look forward to in Rio since my category is unfortunately not included, but there’s plenty of other challenges ahead!
I’ve finally bitten the bullet and decided to ‘go long’. Well kind of anyway. I won’t be doing a full Ironman (yet!), which consists of 3.8km of swimming, 112 miles on the bike and a marathon run to finish. No, I’m doing the sensible thing (surprising I know) and racing a few Middle distance events first (1.9km swim/56mile bike/13.2 mile run).
That might still seem a long way to the average person…and far too easy for some of the crazy triathletes I know (You know who you are!). For me though it’s a logical progression and by racing Middle distance I can build up some experience and begin the process of making myself robust enough so as not to completely break myself when I do an eventually complete an Iron distance race.
I’m really looking forward to this new challenge – especially Ironman Noway 70.3 with Norwegian Baard Grindberg who previously guided me to various successes before moving back to his homeland. The ETU European Middle Distance Championships in Austria (If I can find a guide) will be pretty cool too.
Hopefully I’ll get the chance to do some of the ITU World Paratri sprint races, but as I found last year, getting race starts is likely to be tough…we’ll see.
As usual I will also do some bike events, with the National Time Trial Championships in April with David McGaw (Cambridge CC) piloting offering a good early season target.
Hopefully 2016 will be fun and if a little success is achieved along the way. then i’ll be happy:-)
