Iain Dawson is a visually impaired athlete who has established himself at the top of the world rankings in Paratriathlon – a fast developing sport set to make it’s debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
He has been involved in the sport since 2009 and was unbeaten during the following season. To date Iain has won two European and two World triathlon titles, one World duathlon and one World aquathlon title alongside several other podium finishes at an international level.
Iain, who has less than 10% vision due to a rare genetic eye condition, is aiming to maintain his success rate over the coming seasons in the lead up to Rio 2016 where the aim is to once again be on the podium.
Paratriathletes compete across a number of categories depending on the type of disability and their level of impairment. Iain competes in the PT5 category for blind and visually impaired athletes alongside a guide who accompanies him throughout the swim, bike and run legs of the triathlon.
