Summer Fun

It’s been another busy few days at Tri Team Dawson: –

Tue 7th August: I hit a massive swim PB in training at the UEA Sportspark pool in Norwich on Tuesday. It was great to knock a big chunk off my 400m time, but with the World Championships on the horizon, I’m not saying how quick I went!! Comparing this to  when I started swimming in 2009, the difference is pretty staggering. The day was topped off nicely by The Brownlee brothers putting in an awesome performance to take gold and bronze in the men’s Olympic triathlon.

The Brownlee brothers were obviously starving after completing the Olympic triathlon.

Thursday 9th August: Jill and I went out for the evening…to the Forncett Women’s Institute. We joined the Norfolk-based group to give a short talk on Paratriathlon, how I came to be involved and provide anecdotes from my own experiences with Jill chipping in at various points. Hopefully it went down well. I took the Matrix tandem too, which seemed to generate plenty of interest.

Saturday 11th August: This was a busy day with Luke arriving for the weekend. We took the chance to have a short bike ride, practise transitions and do a quick run using the blackout glasses. We also had a camera crew from Spindle Productions following us and completing interviews as part of the short film Greg and his team are making about Tri Team Dawson. This should be completed in the next month or so. All good fun!

Sunday 12tg August: Luke and I competed in the Cambridge Olympic distance triathlon finishing in 2:13:07. It was only my second race at this distance. It all went pretty well with a good swim, decent bike and a solid run. I was particularly pleased with the second half of the 10km run as I managed to pick up the pace significantly to finish strongly. Our efforts gave us 12th place over-all, so not a bad day’s work.

In action at theCambridge triathlon

There’s not much let up now until the World championships are done and dusted in October, but I am sure it will come round pretty quickly!
