British Triathlon Awards Dinner

The British Triathlon awards dinner was held in Birmingham at the National motorcycle museum last Saturday evening (17th November). The event brings down the curtain on the 2012 season and is a celebration of the achievements by British athletes, clubs, coaches and officials at all levels of the sport.

I was up for Male Paratriathlete of the year along with fellow World champions from Auckland Steve Judge and Mathew Emmerson. Steve had won the coveted prize for the past two years, but could he make it a third? Mathew has come in this and made his mark quickly too, so nobody knew which way it would go.

Jill and I were joined by guides Luke Watson and Carl Shaw along with training partner Mark Philo and Owen Watkins from Matrix Cycles…just a few of the many people to have made a massive contribution towards a successful season. We were also joined by Tri-Anglia chair Rob Lines (my first triathlon guide).

I was delighted to be announced as the winner topping things off nicely for 2012. Clearly this was a shared win rather than just mine though!!

Thanks also to Steve, as, I understand, he actually voted for me rather than himself! I heard we (that’s the Royal ‘we’) won by by just one vote!!

Congratulation also go to Faye McClelland for scooping the female Paratri award and all of the other prize winners including some blokes called Brownlee.
